earbuds

The earliest known in-ear headphones or earbuds were invented by Nathaniel Baldwin in 1910. Baldwin was an engineer who handcrafted the headphones in his kitchen in Utah. He originally designed the earbuds for use by the US Navy, which needed a communication device for use in submarines.

The first commercial in-ear headphones or earbuds were introduced in the 1980s by the Japanese electronics company, Sony. The earbuds, called the Sony Walkman Earphone MDR-E252, were marketed as a lightweight and portable alternative to over-ear headphones.

Since then, earbuds have become increasingly popular and have been further developed and improved by numerous electronics companies. Today, there are a wide variety of earbuds available on the market, ranging from budget-friendly options to high-end models with advanced features like noise cancellation, voice assistant integration, and biometric sensors.
